Rs 2000 crore GST evaded despite composition scheme tax reduction

An investigation into GST composition scheme has revealed that out of the 1.11 registered businesses with a turnover of less than 1.5 crores, only 1% pay 80% of the taxes. A tax evasion of Rs 2000 crores in 2 months was estimated by the investigation wing. Despite the scheme's provision for paying taxes at a reduced rate of 1%, businesses are also generating fake invoices to claim input tax credit and GST refunds.
