587 complaints amid lockdown; India sees a steep rise in crime against women: NCW

The National Commission for Women had started a number to report domestic violence on an urgent basis amid the ongoing coronavirus lockdown. As per the NCW data, 587 complaints have been received from Mar 23 to Apr 16, of which 239 are related to domestic violence and 123 cases were between Feb 27 & Mar 22. NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma attributes the high number to the lockdown which has put the abuser and victim together.
