Assam government introduces welfare schemes for those orphaned, widowed amid Covid-19

The Himanta Biswa Sarma-led Assam government has launched a welfare scheme for those who became orphans or widows amid the Covid-19 outbreak. This includes the Mukhya Mantri Sishu Seva Yojana under which 11 children, orphaned due to Covid, will receive Rs. 3,500 every month from July till they are 24 years old. They will also get a laptop each. The widows will receive one-time financial assistance of Rs. 2.5 lakh.
