Authorities start evacuation in Indonesia after volcanic activity increases in Mount Merapi

People living on the volatile Mount Merapi volcano's fertile slopes were evacuated by the authorities due to the sudden rise in volcanic activities in the region. Yogyakarta's Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Center chief Hanik Humaida said Merapi volcano may erupt anytime. It is Indonesia's most active volcano. Nearly 300 people from two villages have been shifted to emergency shelters in Magelang district.
