Captain hailed hero after bird strike disables Russian plane

The captain of a Russian passenger plane was hailed as a hero after he landed his jet in a cornfield following a collision with a flock of gulls which caused both engines to malfunction. Dozens of passengers inside sought medical assistance, while only one was hospitalized. The event drew comparisons to the 2009 incident when a captain ditched his plane in Hudson River after a bird strike disabled his engines.
