People came out to celebrate all across Chile after over 50% of the country's population voted in favour of replacing the dictatorship-era constitution in a referendum on Sunday. The campaign aimed at approving a new constitution got 77.9% of the vote. President Sebastian Pinera called on the nation to collectively work for a "new constitution". The constitution was designed during the regime of 1973-1990 dictator Augusto Pinochet.
