China says a United Kingdom consulate employee has been detained

China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said, "Simon Cheng, a 28-year-old who works as a trade and investment officer for the British Consulate General of Hong Kong, has been placed in administrative detention for 15 days for violating China's Security Administration Punishment Law. The person is not a British citizen. He is a Hong Kong citizen; this is a purely Chinese internal affair," added Geng.
