India's novel coronavirus tally crossed the 22.6 lakh mark on Tuesday with 53,601 new cases in the last 24 hours. The death toll climbed to 45,257 with 871 more fatalities, the Health Ministry data said. The recoveries surged to 15,83,489 with a 47,746 more people recuperating in the past 24 hours, taking the recovery rate to 69.80 percent. The case fatality rate has dropped to about 2 percent, the ministry said.
