Govt owes Rs 24.5 crore as rent to J&K landowners

Defence Ministry informed the Parliament that the Union government owes an outstanding due of Rs 24.5 crore to various landowners for 56,615.54 acres of land under its possession on rent in Jammu and Kashmir. The Defence Ministry hires land for its various wings, departments, and organizations in 22 districts of J&K. Jammu (18,935.47 acres) has maximum land on rent with ministry followed by Srinagar (3757.84 acres).
