The Arctic Ice sheets are melting at an alarming rate in 2020. Excessive heatwaves and forest fires have resulted in the Arctic summer sea ice melting to its second-lowest level on record. According to the US National Snow and Ice Data Centre (NSIDC), ice in the Arctic Ocean measured 1.44 million square miles on September 15. According to scientists at the National Snow and Ice Data Center, it was the minimum summer level.
