The meteorite is a carbonaceous chondrite, a rare kind of meteorite that accounts for about 4% to 5% of all meteorites discovered on Earth. These meteorites were produced early in the solar system's history in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. This piece of rock, unlike other space junk, was spared the catastrophic collisions and tremendous heat that shaped the solar system's planets and moons.
