Indian Railways puts an end to age-old ‘bungalow peon’ practice

The Indian Railways has decided to put an end to the 167-year-old colonial-era practice of posting “bungalow peons” known as Telephone Attendant-cum-Dak Khalasis at senior officials' residence. The Railway has not posted any new vacancies for the post. "All cases approved for such appointments since 1st July 2020 may be reviewed and position advised to Board," an order by the Indian Railways read.
