Leaving 1st spot after 8 years, India slips to world's 2nd largest weapons importer

Acc to Sweden-based SIPRI's 5-year assessed data, India was the world's 2nd largest importer of weapons in 2014-18, accounting for 9.5 % of the global total. India has been among the top 5 for decades but dropped to 2nd rank with the decline in imports of arms & military equipment. Russia's arms export to India dipped by 42% mainly due to delay in deliveries of arms produced under license from foreign suppliers.
