Microsoft has ended their year-long experiment involving the use of a shipping container-sized underwater datacenter, placed on the seafloor off the coast of Orkney Islands. The firm pulled its Project Natick underwater data warehouse & spent examining the datacenter & the air it held to ascertain the model's viability. Natick expt could prove a modular way to scale up data centre needs while keeping energy & operation costs low.
