The guy was buried with three others near the Salac River, which drains into the Baltic Sea, at a Neolithic burial site in Latvia. The hunter-gatherer was afflicted with Yersinia pestis, a plague produced by the bacteria. The strain, according to experts, first appeared 7,000 years ago.
