Scientists claim they have solved the mystery of why coming near an upside-down jellyfish can result in irritating stings, without any contact. They say the Cassiopea jellyfish release toxin-filled mucus into water leading to stinging & itching skin - a phenomenon termed ‘stinging water’. Japan’s Tohoku University researchers say it’s a long-awaited answer to the mystery of stinging water in warmer coastal regions.
