In a first in Singapore, a lion cub took birth after artificial insemination. The cub has been named Simba after the main character in Disney's "The Lion King". Artificial insemination is a rare procedure used to boost the plummeting population of lions worldwide. The first such insemination was carried out in 2018 when two cubs were born in South Africa. Nearly 23,000 to 39,000 mature lions are alive worldwide.
