Researchers claim a mass extinction event nearly 360 million years ago that killed most of the Earth's plant and freshwater aquatic life, was the result of a short breakdown of the ozone layer shielding the Earth from damaging ultraviolet radiation. It happened at the end of the Devonian geological period. This is a newly discovered extinction theory and it has profound implications for our warming world at present.
