Tamil Nadu government to set up India's first Dugong Conservation Reserve

The Tamil Nadu government has announced that it will set up India's first-ever Dugong Conservation Reserve. The Dugong reserve will come up in the Palk Bay on the southeast coast of the state. Dugong, also known as sea cow, is an endangered marine mammal that faces the risk of extinction due to sea pollution and habitat loss. Tamil Nadu Environment Secretary Supriya Sahu said "the conserve will cover an area of 500 Km."
