Tsunami warning issued after 7.8-magnitude earthquake strikes off Russia's Kuril islands

The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said a tsunami watch was issued for the state of Hawaii after an earthquake of magnitude 7.8 struck off Russia's Kuril Islands, but meteorological officials in Japan issued no alerts, although they said there might be slight tidal changes.While, another agency, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, said the quake had potential to generate a destructive tsunami.
