Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was known to his many followers as Mahatma, or "the great-souled one," for his peaceful philosophy of passive resistance. Gandhi was imprisoned several times during his quest for non-cooperation and undertook various hunger strikes to protest the injustice of India's poorest classes, among other injustices. He was known for his ascetic lifestyle–he often dressed only in a loincloth and shawl–and devout faith. The man was born on October 2, 1869.

He was the man with one vision who led India towrds its progress. He was deeply influenced by Mahatma Gandhi and hence were his great follower. Both of them even share the same date of birth too i.e. October 2nd.

Potti Sri Ramulu, a major leader of the independent Andhra movement, began an indefinite fast on October 19, 1952, seeking a separate Andhra state from Madras for the Telugus. Potti Sri Ramulu took his last breath at the fasting camp on December 15. As word of his death spread, rioting erupted across the country's south.
