Amid opposition protest, RTI amendment bill passed in Lok Sabha

The Right to Information (Amendment) Bill was passed on Monday in the Lok Sabha despite objections by the oppositions which alleged that it was an attempt to undermine the law. The law takes away the stature of information commissioners, with their salaries and service conditions to be specified by the government. The minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said the bill looks at institutionalization and transparency.
