Bashar al-Assad elected as Syria president for 4th term

Bashar al-Assad has been reelected as the President of war-torn Syria for the 4th term. This was even as Western countries accused that the polls in the country were "neither free nor fair". Assad secured a landslide victory with 95.1 percent of the votes cast. A little is known about the two candidates who challenged Assad. The stronghold of Assad continues to increase even as the country continues to struggle with violence.
