Big relief to telecom sectors: Government defers spectrum payments

The Union Cabinet approved a moratorium of 2 years for spectrum payments, providing a big relief to telecom sectors. The move to defer payments for 2020-21 and 2021-22 will give Rs 42000 crore relief to Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio. Telecom operators owe the govt nearly Rs 1.47 lakh crore in license fee and spectrum usage charges. The license fees come to Rs 92642 crore while SUC is Rs 55054 as of this year.
