Chinese court starts trial of former Canadian diplomat Michael Kovrig

In a move that may further worsen the ties between China and Canada, the trial of former Canadian diplomat Michael Kovrig has been started by a court in Beijing. Kovrig will be tried in a closed-door trial in connection with the case of entrepreneur Michael Spavor in China's Dandong. He was arrested in December 2018 with entrepreneur Michael Spavor days after the detention of Huawei's top executive Meng Wanzhou in Canada.
