European Union refuses to recognise Lukashenko as legitimate president of Belarus

Amid the huge uproar in Belarus after the election of Alexander Lukashenko as the President, the European Union’s diplomatic chief has said that the European Union does not recognize Lukashenko as the legitimate president. “The situation is clear for us. We consider the elections of August 9 fraudulent," EU representative Josep Borrell said. However, Vladimir Putin-led Russia has extended its support to Lukashenko.
