First openly transgender person Rachel Levine named assistant US health secretary

In a landmark step, the US Senate has approved the appointment of Rachel Levine, the first openly transgender person, as assistant US health secretary. Levine was nominated for the job by the US Senate. Levine's appointment was confirmed by the Senate by a vote of 52-48. Levine has led the fight of Pennsylvania against the coronavirus pandemic. She has also served as a professor of pediatrics and psychiatry at Penn State University.
