Shripad Naik, the Minister of State for Defence, says the IAF lost 27 aircraft including 15 fighter jets & helicopters in crashes since 2016. In 2016-17, 6 IAF fighter jets, 2 choppers, 1 transport aircraft & 1 trainer crashed. In 2017-18, IAF lost 2 fighter jets & 1 trainer aircraft in crashes. The number increased during 2018-19 with loss of 7 IAF jets, 2 choppers & 2 trainers. In 2019-20, an AN-32 transport aircraft crashed.
