SC upholds disqualification of 17 Karnataka MLA, can contest elections

The Supreme Court on Wednesday, 13 November said the 17 Karnataka MLAs of the former Congress-JD (S) MLAs coalition will remain disqualified. The Apex Court, however, said that the candidates can recontest the 5 December bypolls. The MLAs were disqualified by the then Assembly Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar ahead of a trust vote in July. The By-polls for the 15 of the 17 assembly seats is scheduled for 5 December.
