Key Assam MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi quits Congress, set to join BJP

Rupjyoti Kurmi, a prominent MLA from Assam has quit the Congress party. Kurmi said the party leadership no longer listens to younger leaders. He said he will join the ruling BJP party on Monday. He has also quit the state assembly. "I requested the high command before the Assam polls that the alliance with AIUDF will be detrimental to the Congress in upper Assam; they did not listen to me but I was proved correct," he said.
