RBI stops printing of Rs 2000 note

Introduced after a demonetisation drive in Nov 2016, the RBI has stopped the printing of Rs 2000 notes, stepping up instead the production of smaller bills, including a new Rs 200. The notes are going through multiple checks for security and quality at govt. printing presses. The introduction of the Rs 200 notes is aimed at easing the pressure on lower-denomination currencies that are in short supply.
