Russia warned of retaliation after European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said the union is likely to impose new sanctions on Moscow over the detention of Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny. "I would like to warn our EU partners against taking rash steps," Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said while adding that any new sanctions "will inevitably be followed by a proportionate response."
