Russian govt refuses to acknowledge cricket as a sport

Barely a week after England lifted their maiden World Cup under extraordinary circumstances against New Zealand, the government of Russia has refused to officially acknowledge cricket as a sport as it is not eligible for financial support. The govt memo has listed cricket alongside a number of sports which do not meet the Russian govt criteria. Sports yoga, korfball and footgold are the names mentioned in the list.
