Days after the Madras High Court said that Election Commission officials should be booked with "murder charges" for allowing huge rallies in Bengal amid Covid, the poll body requested the court to stop media reporting on oral observations. Reacting to the media reports that blamed it for the current situation, the EC said, "these reports have tarnished the image of the EC of India as an independent constitutional agency."
