UK PM Boris Johnson resigns as Tory party leader; to continue as Prime Minister until autumn

Boris Johnson has agreed to resign, the BBC’s Chris Mason reported on Thursday. He said that he wanted a new Tory leader to be in place by the party conference. He wants to stay on as Prime Minister until then. Johnson is due to address the nation on Thursday. No 10, Downing Street has issued a statement saying: “The prime minister will make a statement to the country today.” Johnson is expected to deliver it around lunchtime.
