The US has joined an elite international group to set ethical guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence despite the Trump administration earlier dismissing the idea. White House’s chief technology officer, Michael Kratsios, has revealed it is important to work on shared democratic principles while facing China’s alleged record of “twisting technology” in ways that are becoming a threat to civil liberties.
