US President Trump declared new sanctions against Iran in part to retaliate after the downing of a US drone last week and against Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei along with other military chiefs, tightening pressure on the country. Trump said he signed an executive order imposing 'hard-hitting' sanctions on Iran that will deny Khamenei his office and many others access to financial instruments.
