Roger Federer defied age and fitness concerns yet again to save 7 match points in an epic win over unseeded American Tennys Sandgren in the Australian Open quarterfinal. It took three hours and 28 minutes and a medical time out for the Swiss maestro to win 6-3 2-6 2-6 7-6 (10-8) 6-3. Federer’s defeat would have made world number 100 Sandgren the lowest-ranked player to reach the Melbourne semifinals since 1991.
