ISL set to become India’s top tier football league

AIFF accepted a request from ISL to make its winners eligible for Asian Champions League qualifiers’ berth from this season. The ISL champions grabbed that slot in the past two seasons. This right was previously enjoyed by the champions of I-League which, starting in 1996 as the National Football League and renamed in 2007 to its current name, for 18 long years. ISL will now become Indian football’s top competition.
