Serena-Sharapova showdown in US Open 1st round

Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova will face each other in their US Open opener. The previous US Open champions have been scheduled for an opening-round matchup as per the draws. Williams and Sharapova have played in the finals of the other three grand slams and the 2012 Olympics but have never faced each other in the US Open. Williams has a 19-2 record in the star players’ WTA Tour matchups and has won 18 in a row.
