3,635 social media pages taken down by IT ministry for ‘misuse of social media’

The Parliament was informed by the Ministry of Electronics, Information and Technology on Monday that 3,635 social media pages and accounts were taken down in 2019 for violating the Information Technology Act and misusing social media. The ministry said while responding to a question by Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu about the ministry’s regulation of social media that 1,385 pages were blocked in 2017 and 2,799 in 2018.
