The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has chosen the south of the moon as landing as the lunar area is larger than the north pole, and there could be a possibility of the presence of water in the permanent shadowed areas around it. The south pole region also has craters that are cold traps and contain a fossil record of the early solar system. The rover Pragyan based on the moon lander will analyse the lunar soil.
