DGCA said that in cases of bad weather or airport limitation, airlines must consider alternate destinations during flight planning itself. In the past 3 weeks, there have been a number of incidents either because of bad weather or airport limitations when the crew declared 'mayday fuel' for seeking priority in landing. Probing these incidents revealed deficiencies in fuel planning, pilots' decision making & support given by ATC.
