Government gives internet & social media apps up to 36 hours to remove unlawful content

The government is planning to extend the time and give internet and social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook up to 36 hours to remove unlawful content. The move is taken to bring it at par with the current provisions under the IT act. The government wants social media companies to develop automated tools to identify unlawful content within 72 hours and take immediate necessary actions.
