India plans 'Samudrayaan' next after lunar mission, to venture into deep sea in exploration of minerals

India's next ambitious project 'Samudrayaan', Rs 200 crore project intends to send a submersible vehicle with 3 people to a depth of about 6000 metres in order to carry out deep underwater studies. The vehicle is indigenously developed, capable of crawling on the seabed for 72 hours at a depth of 6km. Samudrayaan is a pilot project of Ministry of Earth Sciences for deep ocean mining for rare minerals.
