Japan offers apology, money to forced sterilization victims

The Japanese government has apologized & vowed compensation to thousands of victims of a law that allowed doctors to sterilize people until 1996 forcibly. Some 16,500 people were forcibly sterilised under Japan's Eugenics Protection Law, more than 8000 gave consent but might be pressurized. However, redress measures might not be enough for many survivors. One group of survivors got 30 million yen per victim.
