Researchers at Salk Institute have taken a more organic approach to capture the carbon emitted in the environment. They are looking to optimize plants' natural ability to capture and store carbon and they have now discovered a gene that could be a game-changer. The gene EXOCYST70A3 determines how deep a plant's root grow in soil and we know plant roots store carbon captured from the environment in their root systems.
