Study states carbon monoxide can be used during transplant to protect organs

Researchers have created an oral prodrug that delivers carbon monoxide to protect against acute kidney damage, according to a recent study. The work was published in Chemical Science by Georgia State University researchers lead by Binghe Wang. Even though carbon monoxide (CO) is harmful in big concentrations, scientists have discovered that it can have positive benefits by decreasing inflammation and protecting cells from damage.
