Germany's highest civil court has ordered Volkswagen to pay compensation to a motorist who bought one of its diesel minivans with emissions-cheating software. It’s a benchmark for more than 50,000 other cases in Germany. Herbert Gilbert will now be partially reimbursed for his vehicle. The elite carmaker will now offer affected customers a one-off payment, but the amount will depend on individual cases.
