The Directorate General of Foreign Trade in a notification said that the ban on milk and milk products like chocolates, candies & food prepared with milk from China had been extended without mentioning any timeline. This is being done as the laboratories at the Indian ports are being upgraded to detect the toxic chemical melamine which is used in plastics and fertilizers. The ban was first imposed in September 2008.
